Oatmeal is dope and your grandma knows it

Every morning, I get up, boil some water, and pour in two servings of rolled oats. While the oats cook, I cut up a banana and a few strawberries, and wait about 12 minutes. Then I put in the fruit. If you want the recipe, here it is:

1 cup oatmeal

2 cups water

1 banana

3-4 strawberries

I also drink a cup of water. If you want the recipe, here it is:

1 cup water

Oatmeal is good. It is like cereal, but warm and customizable. I guess everything is customizable if you believe in yourself, but oatmeal is special. If you put sugar in Cheerios, there is no way to evenly distribute it. You can buy Honey Nut Cheerios, but then you’re getting nuts in addition to Cheerios, which you did not ask for. With oatmeal, mixing in sugar, nuts, fruit, or cinnamon is easy. If you are like me, a prodigy oatmeal mixologist, you can make sure that there is at least one piece of granny smith apple in every spoonful (if you’re about that granny smith life). You can even mix in parsley or sage, but it would be disgusting.

If this person didn’t mix in the fruit before eating, they are dead to me.

Cereal with milk is a ticking time bomb. If you take too long to eat Raisin Bran, for example, the milk will wreak havoc on the bran. If you are sitting in the middle of a field with a bowl of Raisin Bran and you see a butterfly, you will be forced to continue eating instead of gaily chasing it around for 45 minutes. If you took a break, your bran would no longer be firm. It would be soggy. The raisins would be fine, though.

With oatmeal, you can put it in the fridge, and it will still be good when you take it out if you do not go too crazy. Sometimes I eat half my oatmeal at one time, and half my oatmeal at another time. I live a remarkable life.

Oatmeal gone Buzzfeed.

I have one confession to make about my oatmeal habits. I do not eat steel-cut oats – the hippest of the oat varieties. I eat rolled oats, which have a slightly higher glycemic index. This means I will die sooner, or something. I forgot why I decided not to buy steel-cut oats, but I think it had something to do with the price, stupid packaging, or longer preparation time.

¡Viva oatmeal!
